Bed Bugs Found: Mesa Public Library, Mesa, Arizona

A bed bug infestation located at the Mesa Public Library in Mesa, Arizona has prompted officials to replace more than $15k worth of chairs in an effort to get rid of them. In an effort to locate the infestation, the library hired a bed bug exterminator that uses bed bug sniffing dogs to locate the insects.

Most of the bed bugs were located in the computer area and some seating on the second floor. The library had been planning on replacing the furniture and simply stepped up efforts and immediately removed the furniture and replaced it. They also had an exterminator some in and treat the areas in question.

The quick action on part of the library officials lead to a successful treatment of the bed bugs. Further inspection of the library showed that the infestation has been taken care of. There have also been no more reports of bed bugs in the building.

Bed bugs can get into any building, it doesn’t really matter how clean they are. The bugs especially like public building as there are many people going in and out of them all of the time. Since they are known as a ‘hitch hiker”, they are able to find hosts to latch onto to go to the next location.
