Bed Bugs Found: Fire Station 15, Tampa, Florida

The firefighters of Fire Station 15 on South Himes in Tampa, Florida are fighting more than fires these days, they are dealing with a bug bug infestation. They state that they have been having problems with them since about September. The powers that be are aware of the problem and have been taking steps to get rid of them.

The firefighters are not sure were these pest came from, but one thing is for sure they want to get them out of the hire house so they can get rest while not on fire calls. The issue is isolated to the dorm that 18 firefighters sleep when they are on there long shifts through the night. For now they are sleeping on couches and cots in the common area but are anxious to get bet to a better living environment.

They are dealing with this and is hasn’t effected the important work that they do, so says Tampa Fire Assistant Chief Nick Locicero.

“They’re still doing a fabulous job,” Locicero said. “They know that they have a task at hand responding to calls so they’re making their way through it.”

They are not sure where the bed bugs came from, but assume that they were picked up on clothing on one of their many calls that they go out on. This has been keeping the bed bug exterminator busy though. The best way to treat for bed bugs in with the use of a heat treatment. As bed bugs cannot tolerate heat, the best way to get rid of them is to raise the temperature of a building for an extended period of time. just to make sure that the treatment takes, the fire department has decided to have heat treatment twice on the building.
