If you are planning on staying overnight at a hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, don’t stay at the Diamond Inn, of the 6200 block West Fond du Lac Avenue, they have a massive bed bug infestations. This is a long term infestation. Due to the repeated complaints agains the Diamond Inn, the Department of Neighborhood Services has put out a health alert to warn residents and travelers.
One guest talked with reporters about her recent experience at the Diamond Inn Hotel:
Lakisha Lewis stayed there on Tuesday night, and she claims she was bit. She showed TODAY’S TMJ4′s Diane Pathieu bit marks up and down her arm. “I woke up this morning and I was itching,” said Lewis. “My guy told me it was bed bugs. I showed him the marks on my arm.”
The hotel isn’t a stranger to health code violations, having 279 violations since 2007! most recently there have been 8 complaints of bed bugs in the hotel. During the investigations, all 8 rooms were verified to have bed bugs.

The hotel management says that they are taking care of the issue as they plan on renovating the hotel with new bedding and furniture. As we all know, bed bugs are great at hiding and can hide in the smallest of cracks in any room. Simply changing bedding is not going to get rid of the issue, they really need to get a bed bug exterminator out and treat the rooms with a bed bug spray to be effective at getting rid of these insects.
You need to take things into your own hands and make sure that you fully inspect any room that you stay in for bed bugs BEFORE you open your luggage up. Put all of your luggage in the bathroom and do an inspections of the room making sure you check the bed area and any furniture in the room. Once you get bed bugs, it’s hard to get rid of them, so you really don’t want to let them hitch a ride home with you.
